My Name is Devon Bowekaty! I was raised here in Zuni, NM. My clans are Eagle and child of a Frog. What sparked my interest in joining the ZYEP team was back in the summer of 2025. I got the privilege to be working as a summer Art intern. So from there on, I was involved in summer youth camp and assisting in art activities. But as the days were getting closer to the end of summer camp, I was given another opportunity to be an RHT (Rooted in Healthy Traditions) Mentor. Being a mentor brought so many responsibilities and so many memories were created during the duration of that program. After RHT program ended, I was offered a job position beginning in 2026, as a Food Sovereignty Leader. My characteristics; having a positive attitude, being helpful and outgoing got my foot into the ZYEP door. What’s more better than getting my foot in the door is that now I’m so thankful I am part of the ZYEP family. My plan as a Food Sovereignty Leader is to engage the youth to be more active and why farming is very important, especially to us Ashiwi people. Not only that but to also be a role model to the youth and setting an example of being respectful and having confidence.
